The Meguro Parasitological Museum, located in Meguro Ward, Tokyo, is a rare research institution dedicated specifically to the study of parasites. The exhibition rooms, spread across the first and second floors of the building, house approximately 300 wet specimens and related materials collected from both Japan and abroad. This facility offers a profound way to learn about the diversity of parasites from a medical perspective, providing intellectual stimulation to visitors from all over the world.
Founded in 1953 by the medical doctor Ryo Kameya, the museum preserves many precious materials that tell the history of medical and hygiene education. For instance, the exquisite wax models once used in medical training serve as important historical documents of both medical and cultural history. Today, the museum is also working toward the digitalization of its materials and promoting cultural tourism through collaborations with local communities and other institutions.

This floor focuses on parasites that impact human health. A particularly notable feature is the collection of enlarged wax models, said to be crafted by Jinichi Numata. These models are precious historical artifacts that reflect the history of medical education, having been produced to support medical training after mastering techniques in Germany. Currently, efforts to digitize these works, such as releasing 3D models, are also underway.
The museum is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While the permanent collection remains constant, there are occasionally "Special Exhibitions" held throughout the year, such as themes related to the sea. A typical visit takes about 30 to 40 minutes, making it an efficient stop during an afternoon of sightseeing. Since the final exit is at 5:00 PM, it is recommended to arrive with plenty of time to spare.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the specialized field of parasitology through quiet observation. The museum also sells official guidebooks (available in Japanese and English) and the periodic publication "Mushi-mushi Demo Hara-no-mushi Tsushin."
