Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort, located in Katashina Village, Gunma Prefecture, is one of the Kanto region's most prestigious ski resorts, boasting high altitude and an extended operating season. Situated near the 2,000m mark on the slopes of Mt. Nikko Shirane, the resort maintains exceptional snow quality due to its geographic advantages.
The standout feature is the vastness of the slopes and the long season, typically running from late November to early May. This makes it one of the earliest resorts to open in the Kanto area. The upper sections offer challenging courses for intermediate and advanced skiers, perfect for long-distance riding and enjoying natural terrain. From the top ropeway, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the famous peaks of the Joshin'etsu region, including Mt. Asama, Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane, Mt. Tanigawa, Mt. Nasu, and Mt. Shibutsu.
Managed by the Nippon Paper Group, Marunuma Kogen has a long-standing history in the region. While it once had a culture more focused on traditional skiing, it has evolved into a modern resort where snowboarding is fully integrated and welcomed across all courses.
The resort is designed to utilize the natural terrain, serving as a local hub for winter sports for many years. Recently, it has focused on nurturing the next generation of athletes by installing snow parks for terrain riding and participating in programs like the NSD Kids Program.

The resort is divided into three main areas: the Summit, Mid-mountain, and Base areas.
The best time to visit is between December and April when the snow is most stable.
Operating hours are generally from 8:30 to 16:30. However, please note that hours may change (closing at 16:00) during specific periods such as Jan 9th or between April 6th and May 6th. Night skiing is only available during specific events, so please check the latest updates.

Beyond standard skiing, Marunuma Kogen offers various specialized activities.
The area around the resort features several hot spring (onsen) facilities and sightseeing spots.
Proper gear is essential for safety and comfort.
