Located in the lush, green environment of Konan City, Kochi Prefecture, "Kochi Prefectural Noichi Zoo" is designed to let animals live in conditions that closely mimic their natural habitats. The zoo prioritizes an environment that minimizes the use of cages and fences, allowing visitors to witness the authentic expressions and natural behaviors of the animals. The vast grounds, integrated with the surrounding nature, are perfect for family picnics or a peaceful stroll for adults looking to enjoy the changing seasons.
The park operates as a zoo that leverages the rich natural environment of Kochi Prefecture. Rather than just displaying animals, the focus is on respecting their ecology and maintaining a state close to nature. Visitors can experience the seasonal colors of flowers and the melodies of wild birds, making the zoo a beloved facility that symbolizes the natural abundance of Kochi.

The park features various exhibition areas that recreate different environments. For example, in the expansive savanna-like area, you can observe giraffes and zebras relaxing from a viewing deck. You can also encounter a wide variety of animals, such as red pandas, otters, and impressive penguins. Additionally, the one of the largest tropical rainforest halls in Japan offers an educational and discovery-filled experience, where you can observe birds, mammals, and reptiles while feeling the atmosphere of Central and South America or Southeast Asia.
The park offers beautiful changes throughout the seasons. Spring and autumn are particularly wonderful for walks, with vibrant seasonal flowers and pleasant birdsong. To see the animals most active, we recommend visiting in the early morning or during the "Enjoyment Time," when keepers provide live explanations. Please note that animals usually return to their enclosures around 16:10, so an early visit is recommended to see them at their most active.
Beyond observing natural behaviors, you can enjoy a nature walk through the park. The "Enjoyment Time" provides a special opportunity to learn more about animal ecology through live feedings and explanations by keepers. For families with children, the exhibits are highly engaging, such as the prairie dog display where you can look down into their habitat through an underground tunnel, creating a very close-up experience.
The area surrounding the park features the beautiful natural landscapes characteristic of Kochi. It is easily accessible, located only about 20 minutes from the Nankoku IC on the Kochi Expressway and approximately 10 minutes by car from Kochi Ryoma Airport. With various tourist spots and commercial facilities nearby, it is a very convenient stop during your Kochi sightseeing trip.
Since the park is quite large and set within a natural environment, we strongly recommend wearing comfortable clothing and walking shoes. While bringing your own food and drinks is allowed, eating inside the buildings is prohibited. Please refrain from feeding the animals, using drones, or making loud noises. For families, stroller rentals (paid) and nursing rooms are available. To ensure the health and safety of the animals, please follow all park rules and enjoy your visit responsibly.
