Keyakidaira is the final destination of the Kurobe Gorge Railway, offering a profound sense of isolation and beauty, surrounded by steep, rugged mountains. Upon arriving at the station, you are immediately greeted by an overwhelming sense of nature. The observatory located at the station provides a panoramic view of the surrounding peaks, making it one of the most famous viewpoints within the entire Kurobe Gorge area.
This area is home to one of only two locations in Japan designated as both a Special Scenic Spot and a Special Natural Monument: the Sarutobikyo Gorge. Legend says that monkeys once leaped across this gorge, and the site remains a vital landmark reflecting the raw history of Japan's natural landscape. The dramatic rock formations and cliffs seen here have been sculpted over countless millennia by the forces of nature.
Keyakidaira boasts several remarkable sights. First is the Okukane Bridge, a striking vermilion bridge standing 34 meters above the main stream of the Kurobe River. Another must-see is the walking path carved directly into the rock wall, known as 'Hitokui-iwa,' where you can feel the sheer power of the terrain. Additionally, the Sarutobikyo Gorge offers a breathtaking view where clear waters meet towering cliffs. These experiences are unique to this region and can only be accessed after arriving via the Kuroble Gorge Trolley Train.
Keyakidaira transforms with every season. The area is particularly stunning during the autumn foliage season when the colors around Sarutobikyo change dramatically. Please note that visits must be planned around the Trolley Train's operating schedule, as the entire area is dependent on the railway. We recommend checking the seasonal weather and train schedules in advance to ensure a smooth trip.
The highlight of Keyakidaira is the ability to experience hot springs amidst untouched nature. The area features hidden gems like Meiken Onsen and Sobadani Onsen. At the Kawahara Observatory, you can enjoy a relaxing footbath (ashiyu) while gazing at the mountains, allowing the warmth to soothe your body. The journey itself, including the ride on the open-air trolley train, is a core part of the adventure.

Access is strictly limited to the Kurobe Gorge Railway (Trolley Train), meaning all movement in the area follows the train's schedule. The station area serves as the central hub for sightseeing, featuring various hot spring facilities and observation decks.
