Katsuragi Hitokotonushi Shrine is a prestigious shrine located in Gose City, Nara Prefecture, dedicated to the deity Hitokotonushi no Okami. The deity is revered for the belief that "any single wish or prayer will be heard and granted," drawing many pilgrims from across the country throughout history. The shrine grounds are filled with a divine atmosphere, anchored by the magnificent "Chichi-Ginkgo" tree, estimated to be approximately 1,200 years old.
The history of this shrine is deeply rooted in the legends recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki (ancient Japanese chronicles). A famous legend tells of the 21st Emperor Yamatotakeru (or Emperor Yuryaku) hunting on Mount Katsuragi, where Hitokotonushi no Okami manifested. When the Emperor asked for the deity's name, the deity replied that he is the god of words who encompasses all good and evil in a single word. Deeply moved by this divine authority, the Emperor held the deity in profound awe. This historical background has established Hitokotonushi no Okami as an exceptionally powerful deity.
