The Fujiazami Line is a scenic road stretching from Oyama Town, Sunto District, Shizuoka Prefecture, toward the Mt. Fuji Subashiri entrance. Because the route runs through high-altitude areas between 800m and 1,200m, the cherry blossoms bloom later than in the lowlands. The roadside is lined with approximately 1,150 trees, including Somei Yoshino and Yama Sakura, creating a magnificent pink tunnel in spring. It is a highly popular driving course for travelers wishing to experience the majestic beauty of Mt. Fuji alongside seasonal blossoms.
This area is blessed with a rich natural environment at the foot of Mt. Fuji. The cherry trees planted along the road serve to enhance the grandeur of the mountain, symbolizing the natural beauty of the Shizuoka region. As the area is adjacent to a Self-Defense Force training ground, there is a strong emphasis on nature conservation and maintaining the scenic integrity of the landscape.
The greatest attraction is the endless rows of cherry blossoms flanking the road. With about 750 Somei Yoshino and 400 Yama Sakura trees, the total of 1,150 blossoms creates a unique spectacle. The contrast between the delicate pink petals and the massive, snow-capped peak of Mt. Fuji is a sight found nowhere else. As you drive through varying altitudes, you will witness a shifting palette of colors—the pink of the blossoms, the deep blue of the sky, and the white and blue hues of Mt. Fuji.
The peak season is late April. Since this is a high-altitude area, it is best to visit slightly later than the typical blossom season in the lowlands. For the most vivid colors, daytime is ideal. On clear, sunny days, the visibility of Mt. Fuji is at its best, making the scenery truly unforgettable.
This is primarily a scenic driving route. The most unique way to experience this area is to drive through the cherry blossom tunnel, perhaps even rolling down your windows to fully immerse yourself in the spring air. It offers a luxurious view of both the blossoms and the mountain directly from your car window.
The route is located on the path from Route 138 toward the Mt. Fuji Subashiri 5th Station. The surrounding area serves as a base for mountain climbing and nature trekking. It is also easily accessible from the Gotemba area and the Tomei Expressway, making it a perfect addition to a Shizuoka sightseeing itinerary.
Because the altitude ranges from 800m to 1,200m, temperatures are significantly lower than in the plains. We recommend bringing a light jacket or layers to adjust to the temperature changes. Please note that the area is adjacent to a Self-Defense Force training ground; entry into adjacent lands is strictly prohibited. Always drive safely and ensure you do not obstruct traffic while taking photos.
