The foundation of this site dates back to November 1973, with the opening of the Bernard Buffet Museum and the Yasushi Inoue Literature Museum. The Bernard Buffet Museum houses a significant collection of works by the French artist, curated by Kiichiro Okano, with additional wings for printmaking added in 1988 and 1996. The connection to Yasushi Inoue is also deeply rooted in the history of the site through his relationship with Kiichiro Okano.
