Ajisai Park is a vast, beautiful park spanning approximately 6.9 hectares in Miyakonojō City, Miyazaki Prefecture. As its name suggests, the park is famous for its stunning display of 28,000 hydrangeas across 84 different varieties that blanket the slopes, serving as a quintessential symbol of early summer. The most spectacular period is from early to mid-June, when the vibrant colors are at their peak. Beyond being a botanical marvel, the park is also a scenic site containing the historical ruins of Matsuo Castle, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance.
The park encompasses the site of the former Matsuo Castle. At the top of the hill stands a 15-meter-tall observatory designed in the shape of a castle, serving as a landmark that evokes a sense of history.
