HAKODATE ART EXHIBITION 2026 Vol.3 “Kyu-Shigai” is a wandering art event set in the Hakodate West District (Old Town), an area where Western culture blends with nostalgic Japanese streetscapes. This event is produced by TERU, the vocalist of the famous Japanese rock band GLAY.
The venue, the Hakodate West District, is characterized by its historical buildings and beautiful scenery. This exhibition allows visitors to rediscover the charm of the city through various art forms: immersive installations that treat the entire space as a work of art, photography exhibitions by Hakodate-born photographers, and a fusion of poetry and calligraphy within a designated Important Cultural Property.
The greatest charm of this event is the diverse range of expressions across three distinct venues:
1. Odajima Suisan Foodstuffs: Features an installation produced by TERU. This includes a Hakodate version of the popular "Character Exhibition" from Shibuya, Tokyo, and works themed around "Lines," allowing you to experience the space itself as art.
2. TSU@THE TABLE GALLERY: A photography exhibition by photographers born in Hakodate, including Yusuke Oishi, Yusuke Baba, Takayuki Koike, and Kosutaro, as well as JIRO (bassist of GLAY). The second floor also features warm, heartfelt displays themed around "Thread," created by local calligraphers and schoolchildren.
3. Tachikawa-ya Residence & Store: A space to engage all five senses against the backdrop of an Important Cultural Property. It features calligraphy by Akiko Sasaki, based on poems written by GLAY's main composer, TAKURO. Additionally, enjoy a limited-edition matcha cafe in collaboration with the popular "HAKODATE MATCHA STAND" and DJ sets by artist Azumi.

Visitors can move between venues using public transportation such as the Hakodate City Tram. We recommend a style of wandering through the historic streets while visiting each venue.
This is a "wandering-style" event involving multiple locations. Rather than visiting everything at once, it is best to move between venues according to their unique characteristics. For example, you can enjoy a deeper experience by timing your visit to enjoy the limited matcha at Tachikawa-ya or catching a DJ performance.
Since many exhibits are spatial or installation-based, we recommend experiencing the unique atmosphere of each venue. At the photography venue, you can discover new facets of Hakodate through the lens of local artists.
