Shofukuyama Park is located in Aki-tsu, Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Situated on a high vantage point overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the park offers an expansive view that, on clear days, can even reach as far as Shikoku. It is renowned as a premier cherry blossom destination, with approximately 1,000 Yoshino cherry trees in full bloom during the spring, attracting many visitors. The park features an observation deck jutting out toward the sea, providing a unique view of the local landscape, including the characteristic oyster rafts floating in the water below.
The park serves as a beloved community space that celebrates the local natural beauty. During the cherry blossom season, the area is adorned with traditional lanterns to celebrate the seasonal scenery. A distinctive feature of this location is the view of the local industrial and cultural landscape at night, such as the lights from the shipyards in Mitsu Bay and the 'Man-no-ji' lights on the nearby Mount Hono, which create a nostalgic and culturally rich atmosphere.

The park includes two observation decks. The one extending toward the sea is particularly popular, offering an intimate view of the calm Seto Inland Sea and the countless oyster rafts. During the cherry blossom season, night-time illuminations are held, allowing visitors to enjoy the harmony between the illuminated flowers and the distant lights of the shipyard cranes and Mount Hono. The park is well-equipped for various activities, featuring benches and tables for relaxation, as well as a playground area with swings and slides for children along the paths.
The most vibrant time to visit is during the spring (March to April) when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. During this period, you can enjoy both the daytime scenery and the magical night-time illuminations. For the best experience, aim for a clear day to enjoy a panoramic view that extends to the distant islands and the Shikoku region. The peaceful view of the Seto Inland Sea is beautiful in any season.

Visitors can enjoy picnics or family outings using the many benches and open spaces provided. The playground area is a great spot for children to play. During the peak cherry blossom season, food trucks or local vendors may occasionally be present, offering snacks and drinks, providing a chance to experience the local food culture while enjoying the natural scenery.
The park is located near Shofuku-ji Temple. It is easily accessible, being approximately a 15-minute walk from JR Akitsu Station, making it a convenient starting point for travelers using public transportation. The surrounding area is rich in the natural beauty of the Seto Inland Sea.
As the park is located on high ground, we recommend wearing clothing suitable for changing weather and temperatures. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for navigating the paths and open areas. If you use the parking lot during the peak cherry blossom season (when lanterns are lit), please note that parking fees may apply on weekends; it is best to check the local notices in advance.
