The surrounding environment is incredibly diverse, offering views of the Goto Sea to the west, the deep waters of Sasebo Port to the south, and the bustling Sasebo cityscape to the east.

The greatest charm of this spot is the 'Tajima-bi' (the beauty of numerous islands) of Kujukushima. The sight of countless islands scattered across the sea surface and the complex coastlines is truly overwhelming. Beyond the long slope leading to the second observation deck, even more spectacular views await. As night falls, the scenery transforms completely. The lights from the U.S. Naval Base, shipyards, and the city glow in warm orange hues, creating a dreamlike nightscape. The contrast between the blue sea by day and the shimmering lights by night is an experience unique to this location.
The charm of Mt. Yubari Observation Deck lies in its changing expressions throughout the seasons. In spring (early April to early May), the plaza near the observatory is filled with blooming azaleas, creating a vibrant and colorful landscape. The sunset period is highly recommended; watching the sun dip into the sea and the sky transition through the 'magic hour' into a dramatic nightscape is an incredibly emotional experience. We recommend checking the sunset times in advance (e.g., around 18:40 in April or 17:13 in December) to ensure you catch the best view.

There are many spots nearby to help you discover the depth of Kujukushima. For instance, the Kujukushima Tropical Botanical Garden is an excellent area for nature observation. Additionally, Ishidake Observatory is located closer to the sea than Mt. Yubari, offering an even more intimate and powerful view of the islands. Exploring these areas will provide a multi-faceted understanding of the natural beauty of Sasebo.
Access to the observatory is most commonly done by car. Because it is located at a high altitude, temperatures can change depending on the weather and time of day, so bringing a light jacket or outer layer is highly recommended. For a comfortable stroll, we suggest wearing walking shoes.
