Yukiwari Bridge, spanning the Yukiwari Valley, offers a breathtaking vantage point to observe the flowing Abukuma River and the surrounding natural landscape. Standing approximately 60 meters high, the bridge provides a dramatic perspective of the valley's unique topography. The highlight of this location is the autumn season, when the surrounding foliage and the mountains of the Nasu Koshiren range transform into a vivid tapestry of red, orange, and yellow, creating a spectacular multi-colored landscape.
The region has long been cherished for its rich natural environment, shaped by the continuous flow of the Abukuma River. The area surrounding Yukiwari Bridge is a beloved destination for nature appreciation. Through paths such as the Nishigo Promenade, visitors can deeply connect with the local natural environment and experience the serene atmosphere that has defined this region for generations.
The centerpiece of the valley is the 60-meter-high iron bridge and the breathtaking scenery it overlooks. During the peak of autumn, the surrounding slopes are dyed in deep reds and oranges, creating a stunning color contrast against the backdrop of the Nasu Koshiren mountains. Additionally, the Nishigo Promenade, accessible from the Yukiwari Park parking lot, allows visitors to discover the beauty of Ikkyumi Falls and the Kuma-no-suberi slide, where the harmony of waterfalls and lush vegetation creates a picturesque scene.
While the landscape changes beautifully throughout the four seasons, the most striking period is the autumn foliage season (typically from September to November). During this time, the entire valley is bathed in warm colors. To get the best view, we recommend using the Yukiwari Park Observatory or the Yukiwari Bridge Observatory, which provide panoramic views of both the bridge and the valley. The changing gradients of green in summer and the deep hues of autumn make every visit unique.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Nishigo Promenade. Along this path, you can encounter various waterfalls, such as Ikkyumi Falls, while walking through the natural scenery. The route is easily accessible via a walking path from the Yukiwari Park parking lot. For photography enthusiasts, the observatories offer excellent vantage points to capture the dramatic iron bridge set against the colorful valley backdrop.
The area around Nishigo Village is well-equipped with parks and promenades perfect for nature lovers. Using the Yukiwari Park parking lot as a starting point, you can explore the Nishigo Promenade for a deep immersion in nature. The site is easily accessible by car from the Shirakawa IC or Shin-Shirakawa Station, making it a convenient stop during a sightseeing trip through Fukushima.
When walking the trails, please wear comfortable walking shoes as the Nishigo Promenade is a natural path where you should be mindful of the terrain. Regarding payments, please check with local facilities if you plan to use nearby services, as they may require cash or credit cards. While there is no formal English-language signage everywhere, the scenery is universally beautiful. Photography is highly encouraged at the observatories, but please respect the natural environment and keep noise to a minimum to preserve the tranquility of the valley.
