Yufuin Floral Village is a delightful mini-theme park located in the Yufuin area of Oita Prefecture. It is designed to replicate the breathtaking scenery of the Cotswolds region in England, often cited as one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. The village features charming, quaint buildings and boutique shops that create an atmosphere of elegance and nostalgia. It is the perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse yourself in a serene, exotic environment.
Opened in 2012, this facility takes great care to preserve the traditional British architectural style and atmosphere. The landscape is meticulously maintained to harmonize with nature, offering visitors the sensation of traveling abroad without leaving Japan. Beyond being a simple tourist spot, it serves as a cultural space where visitors can experience the world of beloved characters and the charm of antique-style aesthetics.
The village is home to a variety of unique shops and exhibits. For instance, 'Moomin’s Shop' offers a delightful collection of goods inspired by the famous Nordic stories, while 'THE HIDEOUT' specializes in antique watches and leather goods. Another iconic sight is the area featuring a vintage British MINI, which has become a popular backdrop for photography. These themed shops provide a deep sense of discovery for every visitor.
The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons as different flowers are planted throughout the year. From spring to summer, the village is adorned with vibrant, colorful blooms, while autumn brings a more tranquil and sophisticated landscape. The bright daylight hours are the best time to visit for shopping and photography. Please note that specific operating hours for individual shops may vary during the evening or early morning.
There are numerous interactive experiences available. At 'OWL'S FOREST,' you can enjoy a close-up encounter with owls. You can even visit a dedicated studio to dress up in wizard-like costumes and take commemorative photos with an owl. For those interested in shopping, 'EARTH MARKET' offers natural stone accessories, and 'KYUSHU FOOD MARKET' provides a selection of local specialties from the Kyushu region, ensuring a diverse range of activities for all tastes.
The facility is conveniently located near major sightseeing spots in the Yufuin area. It is approximately a 15-minute walk from JR Yufuin Station or a 5-minute drive. For those arriving by car, it is only about 5 minutes from the Yufin IC. Since the area is surrounded by many hot spring (onsen) resorts and accommodations, it is an easy and ideal stop during your Yufuin sightseeing itinerary.
Because the village features cobblestone paths and some uneven surfaces, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Regarding payments, please be prepared with both cash and credit cards, as acceptance varies by shop. While there are English signs and shop names, the level of English support varies by staff; it is helpful to confirm details directly at each shop. When taking photos, please be mindful of the scenery and the animals (owls) to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
