The Yonago Gaina Festival is a signature summer event held in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture. The word "Gaina" is a local dialect meaning "large" or "huge." True to its name, the festival is characterized by its grand scale and powerful performances. The festivities unfold across various areas, including the vicinity of Yonago Station, Minatozan Park, and Yonago Port.

History & Cultural Background

A unique element of this festival is the "Gaina Manto." Its origins trace back to members of the JGSDF Yonago Camp who, during a training program in Akita City, witnessed the famous "Kanto Festival." They brought the spirit of the lantern-carrying tradition back to Yonoga. However, after coordination with the original Akita Kanto Festival organizers, the local version was uniquely adapted into the "Gaina Manto," featuring distinct local styles and a commitment to preserving it as a purely local Yonago tradition.
