The Yokohama Anpanman Children's Museum is a multi-purpose facility themed around Anpanman, located in the Minato Mirai district of Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Originally opened in 2007, it moved to its current location in the 61 Block in 2019 for a grand reopening. The facility consists of the 'Shop & Food/Restaurant' area on the 1st floor and the 'Museum' area on the 2nd and 3rd floors. While the 1st-floor area is free to enter and features various restaurants and shops, the 3rd-floor museum is a paid indoor playground. As an all-weather facility, it provides a safe and comfortable environment for families with small children, regardless of the weather outside.
This facility holds a significant place in the history of Anpanman-themed locations in Japan. After opening in the 48 Block of Minato Mirai in 2007, it relocated to the 61 Block on July 7, 2019, due to land lease agreements. This move allowed the facility to expand to approximately 14,000m², evolving into a much more enriched experience. Today, it serves as a vital space for children to develop their senses and imagination through the beloved character, Anpanman, deeply rooted in Japanese children's culture.
The museum features diverse areas that recreate the magical world of Anpanman. The 3rd-floor museum area includes zones like the Bread Factory, Everyone's Town, Wanpaku Island, School, Wai Wai Park, and Ball Park, where children can stay active and play. A major highlight is the daily character show held at the 'Hiroba' main stage, where families gather to watch Anpanman and friends. Additionally, the 1st-floor area features Uncle Jam's Bread Factory, the Anpanman Restaurant, and various shops, allowing visitors to dive deeper into the character's world through dining and shopping.
As an indoor facility, it is suitable for visits regardless of the season. It is particularly popular during long school holidays like summer and spring breaks. While standard operating hours are generally from 10:00 to 17:00 (or 18:00), the last admission is at 16:00, so we recommend arriving early. To get the most out of your visit, aim for daytime hours to catch the character shows at the main stage. Note that the 1st-floor restaurant area is free to enter, making it a convenient spot for lunch or rest even if you do not enter the paid museum area.
Activities in the museum focus on active play rather than just viewing exhibits. Areas like the Ball Park and Wanpaku Island encourage children to move around and burn energy. Watching the character shows is an essential experience for any visitor. In the shop area, you can also find exclusive Anpanman merchandise to take home. These experiences are carefully designed to create lasting, joyful memories for children.
The facility is located within the Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 district, surrounded by many famous tourist spots. Nearby, you can enjoy shopping malls and the beautiful bay scenery of the Minato Mirai area. It is a perfect stop during a Yokohama sightseeing tour and is easily accessible via public transportation or a short walk from major stations.
Since most activities are indoors, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for movement. Because children often run around or play on the floor, easy-to-remove shoes and flexible attire are ideal. Please be mindful of other visitors as it is a public space.
