Located on the 14th floor of the Yokkaichi Port Building, "Umiterasu 14" is an observation and exhibition space designed to showcase the spectacular night view of the Yokkaichi Industrial Complex. In 2015, this area was officially recognized as a "Japanese Nightscape Heritage (Facility-type Nightscape Heritage)." From this high vantage point, you can witness the iconic scenery of Yokkaichi Port. During the day, the view offers a vast panorama stretching from the Suzuka Mountains toward Nagoya, while at night, the landscape transforms into a brilliant tapestry of light created by the industrial zone's illumination.
Yokkaichi Port has long served as a vital logistics hub. The facility includes exhibition corners that introduce the history of how Yokkaichi Port evolved into a modern industrial center, the various roles the port plays today, and the nature of the work performed there. It is a place where visitors can visually learn about the regional history that has grown alongside the development of the industrial complex and current industrial activities.
The observation deck provides a 360-degree view of the Yokkaichi industrial complex. The nighttime scenery is particularly famous, characterized by a landscape of light featuring illuminated plants, container yards, and chimneys. Inside the building, there are themed exhibition sections such as "The Progress of the Port," "The Role of the Port," "Working at the Port," and "Loving the Port." These sections use large-scale video displays and scale models to help visitors understand the functions and history of the port.
The view can be enjoyed year-round, but if you wish to see the industrial night view, please note the different operating hours for weekends and holidays. On weekdays, the facility closes at 17:00, whereas on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, it remains open until 21:00. Please note that the lights inside the room are dimmed 10 minutes before closing time, so plan your photography or viewing accordingly.
The observation deck is an excellent spot for industrial night photography. For photographers, a blackout cloth with suction cups (limited to 5 pieces) can be borrowed for free at the reception to minimize reflections. While tripods are allowed, they must be used below the level of the handrail according to the facility rules. Additionally, the exhibition area offers an immersive way to learn about the history of Yokkaichi Port through large-scale video presentations.
The area around Yokkaichi Port is well-equipped with facilities to learn about the port's role and history. The Port Building itself serves as a tourism hub, and the surrounding area provides an opportunity to experience industrial heritage and the mechanisms of logistics and maritime transport.

■ Language: Most exhibits and signs are in Japanese; English support from staff is not guaranteed.
■ Reservations: No prior reservation is required for individuals, though groups may need to follow separate procedures.
■ Photography: If using a tripod, it must be kept below the height of the handrail. Using the free blackout cloth from the reception can help reduce reflections in your shots.
■ Pets: Pets are not allowed inside the facility.
■ What to bring: A camera with appropriate gear for night photography is highly recommended to fully capture the scenery.
