The Yamabiko Promenade is a scenic walking path approximately 2.5 km long, located within the Kurobe Gorge in Toyama Prefecture. Stretching from Unazuki Station through the Unazuki Dam toward Tochino-yu, this path allows visitors to feel the presence of the Kurobe Gorge Railway and the surrounding nature up close. The most iconic feature is the pair of red bridges—the New Yamabiko Bridge and the Old Yamabiko Bridge—which stand as symbols of this breathtaking area.
The name 'Yamabiko Bashi' (Echo Bridge) is said to have originated from the way the sound of the passing trains echoes through the gorge toward the hot spring town. Parts of the path were once part of the original railway trackbed and have since been developed into a public promenade. The Old Yamabiko Bridge serves as a historical relic of the railway's past, and together with the modern New Yamabiko Bridge, it tells a story of the development and history of the Kurobe Gorge region.
The greatest highlight is the view of the New Yamabiko Bridge as seen from the Old Yamabiko Bridge. Seeing the bright red bridge against the deep green of the gorge while a sightseeing train rushes across is a sight unique to this location. The path also features tunnels, providing a sense of adventure as light pierces through the darkness, creating a cave-like exploration experience. The changing terrain, including iron bridges and old rail tracks, ensures that every step offers a new perspective.
The promenade offers different charms depending on the season. From spring to summer, the contrast between the lush greenery and the clear mountain streams is beautiful. In autumn, the surrounding trees turn vibrant colors, creating a stunning contrast with the red bridges. Regarding timing, it is highly recommended to visit in accordance with the Kurobe Gorge Railway schedule. By timing your visit with the train's passage, you can capture truly dynamic and moving photographs.

The walk through the tunnels offers a unique way to experience the natural geological formations. Starting from Unazuki Station, you can enjoy a more intimate connection with nature by walking the path, which offers a different perspective than the views seen from the train window.
The starting point for your walk is Unazuki Station, the gateway to the Kurobe Gorge Railway. The area around the station is a lively hot spring town with many accommodation options and restaurants. Near the end of the promenade, you will find facilities like 'Tochino-yu' hot springs, which are perfect for relaxing after your walk. You can also continue further into the gorge using the Kurobe Gorge Railway to explore the wider area.
As the promenade is a natural environment featuring tunnels and old railway tracks, the terrain can be uneven. It is highly recommended to wear comfortable sneakers or trekking shoes. Since temperatures can change, especially inside tunnels, please dress in layers. For photography, please ensure you do not obstruct the movement of other visitors or the train. As this is a protected natural area, please follow the rule of taking all trash home with you and do not pick any plants.
