It is known to have been constructed in 1849 (the second year of the Kaei era), preserving the appearance of a merchant house from the late Edo period. The Watanabe family served as official suppliers for the military funds of the Otaki Clan, giving the residence a significant historical background as a residence of a wealthy merchant who supported the local economy. The building adopts a two-story machiya format, serving as a precious structure that illustrates the integrated lifestyle of commerce and residence during that era.
This building was constructed in 1849 during the late Edo period. While it originally featured a thatched roof, it has since been modified with a tiled roof.
