Ubuki Park is a massive urban park spanning 48.9 hectares, located at the foot of Mount Ubuki in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. It is celebrated as one of the most beautiful scenic spots in the San'in region, having been selected as one of Japan's top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots and one of Japan's top 100 Urban Parks. The park is dotted with beautiful ponds, observation decks, an animal plaza, and historic architectural structures, allowing visitors to experience the deep connection between nature and Japanese history.
The history of the park dates back to 1904 (Meiji 37). The development of the landscape began when the future Emperor Taisho, who was the Crown Prince at the time, visited the San'in region and stayed at the site. A key highlight is the "Hiryokaku," a stunning building that preserves this history and is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. The site also holds significance in modern Japanese history, having hosted visits by Emperor Showa in 1947.
The park offers diverse charms throughout the seasons. It is particularly famous in spring, when approximately 4,000 cherry trees and 40,000 azalea bushes bloom in a spectacular display of color. For families and children, the "Fureai Animal Plaza" provides a wonderful opportunity to interact with various animals. Other must-see spots include the tranquil walking paths around the ponds, the observation deck offering panoramic views, and the historic architecture that evokes a sense of the past.
The best time to visit is during the spring (roughly March to May) when the cherry blossoms and azaleas are at their peak. During this period, the park is transformed into a vibrant landscape of color and is very lively. We recommend visiting during daylight hours to fully enjoy the scenery around the ponds, the observation deck, and the animal plaza.

The animal plaza makes it an ideal destination for families with children or groups looking for an interactive experience. Whether you are exploring the historical architecture or simply relaxing by the water, the park offers a peaceful atmosphere for a slow-paced day out.
The area surrounding the park retains the historical atmosphere of Kurayoshi. The nearby "Ubuki Tamagawa" area is a preserved district of important traditional buildings, making it a wonderful place for a scenic walk. The park also serves as a central hub for the local community, with the Kurayoshi City Hall located within its vicinity.
Because the park is quite large, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please dress according to the season. When using facilities within the park or visiting the surrounding areas, please observe local etiquette and respect the natural environment.
