The shrine enshrines 'Tsushima-no-kami,' a deity associated with the sea. According to ancient legends, the deity was enshrined on this island following a divine oracle from the ocean. It is conveniently located near other famous sightseeing spots, such as Chichibugahama Beach (often called the 'Uyuni of Japan'), making it an easy addition to a coastal driving route or a day trip through Kagawa's natural landscapes.
Please dress respectfully when visiting the shrine. If you plan to visit during the Summer Grand Festival, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, as you will be walking across the bridge to the island. Note that a bridge crossing fee of 300 JPY is required to reach the main shrine; please prepare small change in advance. As the festival period can be very crowded, please allow plenty of time for your visit and observe proper shrine etiquette.
