Tsurugasaki Beach is the stage for the 'Kazusa Juyusha Matsuri,' one of the oldest 'Hamabori' (beach-descending) rituals in the Boso region. This tradition is said to have originated in the year 807 (the Daido era), boasting over 1,200 years of history. Registered as an intangible folk cultural property of Chiba Prefecture, the ritual is held every September. The spirit of this ancient tradition, where deities are said to gather at the shore, is deeply woven into the identity of this coast.
The primary attraction is the world-class surfing environment that hosted Olympic competitions. Visitors may have the chance to witness high-level riding during major international events, such as the 'QS6000 ICHINOMIYA CHIBA OPEN.' Additionally, in September, you can witness the breathtaking sight of the traditional festival, where over 2,500 people gather to honor ancient customs.
While the beach offers excellent wave quality year-round, its character changes with the seasons. For surfers, it is best to check the swell conditions before visiting.
