Tsukuga-no-taki Park is a serene natural destination located in the Arima Onsen area of Kita-ku, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. The name of the park is derived from the unique way the falling water echoes against the rock cavities, creating a sound reminiscent of the 'Tsukumi' (a traditional Japanese hand drum). The pure waters of Mount Rokko cascade down in a two-tier structure, creating a rhythmic melody. The surrounding environment is rich with lush trees, making it a place where the sounds of water and nature take centerly stage.
The name of this site has been rooted in the resonance of the water since ancient times. The natural topography of the rock faces acts as a natural amplifier for the sound of the falls, a phenomenon that has been cherished by locals and travelers for generations. As part of the historic Arima Onsen region, the park is recognized as a significant scenic spot that preserves the natural beauty and auditory heritage of the area.
The park is designed to harmonize with the natural landscape. The centerpiece is a two-tier waterfall with a drop of approximately 11 meters, famous for the striking sound it makes against the rocks. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained observation decks and rest areas that provide excellent views of the waterfall and the flowing stream. Depending on the season, the experience changes: you might see the vibrant greenery of early summer, the appearance of fireflies at dusk, or hear the distinct calls of the mountain stream fish (kajika).
The park offers a different face in every season. In spring, you can enjoy mountain cherry blossoms; in early summer, the fresh greenery is breathtaking; and in autumn, the landscape turns into a brilliant display of colorful foliage. The atmosphere at dusk in early summer is particularly magical, as the sounds of nature become more pronounced and fireflies dance in the air.
With well-maintained walking paths and observation decks, visitors can easily immerse themselves in the natural sounds and scenery. The area is ideal for a slow stroll to clear the mind. Nearby, there are also facilities for trout fishing and other historical landmarks, making it a great stop during a day of exploring the Kobe and Arima regions.
The park is closely connected to the Arima Onsen hot spring town, making it a perfect addition to a walking tour of the area. Nearby, you will find various accommodations such as 'Arima Kirari,' as well as several parks and gardens that showcase the fusion of natural beauty and traditional Japanese hot spring culture.
As this is a natural environment with uneven terrain, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.
