Tottori Airport is a regional airport located in Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture. Since 2015, it has been officially known by its popular nickname, "Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport," inspired by the famous Tottori Sand Dunes and the work of manga artist Gosho Aoyama, the creator of "Detective Conan," who is a native of the prefecture. The airport primarily serves the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture, with regular domestic flights connecting to major hubs like Tokyo (Haneda Airport). The history of the current airport dates back to 1967, with operations beginning at this location on July 31, 1967. Originally, the runway was 1,200 meters long, but it underwent several expansions to accommodate growing demand: 1,500 meters in 1972, 1,800 meters in 1985, and reaching 2,000 meters in 1990. By 1990, the airport even saw the arrival of international charter flights. In 2015, to boost its brand recognition and appeal, the name "Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport" was adopted, making it a beloved destination for fans of the Detective Conan series and a unique landmark in the region.
While the airport is primarily a transit hub, it is characterized by elements that allow visitors to feel the atmosphere of the "Detective Conan" universe. The facility includes the Domestic Terminal Building (1st and 2nd floors) and the Tottori Airport International Hall, which serves as a center for international exchange. Additionally, visitors may observe the movement of aircraft and helicopters, such as the Tottori Prefectural Police's Agusta A109 (nicknamed "Sakyu"), which is stationed in the vicinity.
As Tottori Airport focuses mainly on domestic scheduled flights, usage is based on flight schedules. Since 2006, operational hours have been extended, with the airport currently operating from 07:00 to 21:00. It is used year-round for both tourism to the Tottori Sand Dunes and business travel. It is highly recommended to check the latest flight status in advance, especially when traveling during early morning or late-night hours.

The airport is located approximately 7 km northwest of Tottori City, situated in a coastal area surrounded by the Sea of Japan, the Chigusa River, and Lake Kyoyama. It serves as a crucial access point for the Tottori Sand Dunes, with well-established bus and taxi connections. Nearby attractions, such as the "Gosho Aoyama Manga Information Center," are also easily accessible via routes starting from the airport.
