Josei Falls (Josei-daki) is a magnificent waterfall located in Sakki-cho, Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, boasting a breathtaking drop of 126 meters. It is an exceptionally rare site, being the only waterfall in Hiroshima Prefecture to be selected as one of the "Top 100 Waterfalls in Japan." The local history is deeply rooted, with mentions of the falls in the "Geihan Tsushi," a historical record of the Hiroshima Clan from the Edo period, where it was referred to as "Josei-baku." Its beauty and the importance of its natural environment were officially recognized when it was designated as a Scenic Spot of Hiroshima Prefecture in 1960. Furthermore, the surrounding area was designated as a Hiroshima Prefecture Natural Environment Conservation Area in 1975, ensuring that this precious ecosystem remains protected.
The greatest draw of Josei Falls is the dynamic movement of water cascading in three distinct stages. Each level—upper, middle, and lower—presents a different visual rhythm. The spectacle becomes even more powerful after rainfall or during periods of high water volume, showcasing the raw strength of nature. Additionally, the surrounding landscape changes beautifully with the seasons. The autumn foliage season is particularly spectacular, as the vibrant colors of the leaves create a stunning contrast against the white, rushing water of the falls.

Near the falls, there is a viewing platform where you can sit quietly, listen to the thunderous sound of the water, and contemplate the magnificent scenery.
The area around the falls features several facilities to enjoy the outdoors. For instance, the Josei Falls Campground offers a chance to stay overnight surrounded by nature. Additionally, the nearby Takimiya Ryokan, located near the Gojo River, can serve as a base for those wishing to deeply immerse themselves in the local natural environment. Since the area is a protected natural zone, you can enjoy the richness of the local ecosystem from multiple perspectives while exploring.
Preparation is key when heading to the falls. Because the path from the parking lot to the waterfall is about 500m long and can have uneven terrain, wearing comfortable walking shoes (such as sneakers or trekking shoes) is essential. From an environmental standpoint, please ensure you take all your trash home with you. Please be aware of signs regarding "Caution: Snakes" in the area; stay mindful of your steps and the surrounding grass while walking.
