Toki no Mori Park is a facility located on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture, dedicated to the protection and reintroduction of the crested ibis (Toki). The park features the 'Toki Museum,' which displays materials regarding the ecology and conservation history of the bird, and the 'Toki Fureai Plaza,' where you can observe the crested ibis living in an environment that closely mimics its natural habitat. The facility is equipped with large-scale enclosures, providing an excellent setting to observe the birds flying, foraging, and building nests.
This facility was established to promote the breeding and reintroduction of the crested ibis, a species that once faced the threat of extinction. The Toki Museum houses numerous exhibits detailing the process of conservation and the specific activities aimed at returning the birds to the wild, allowing visitors to learn about this historical process. All collected contribution fees are fully allocated to the 'Sado City Toki Environment Improvement Fund,' supporting ongoing efforts for the successful reintroduction of the species into the wild.
There are two primary areas for observation within the facility. The first is the 'Toki Museum,' where visitors can learn about the ecology and history of the crested ibis. The second is the 'Observation Corridor,' which allows you to view the adjacent Sado Toki Protection Center through large windows. From this corridor, you can observe the crested ibis living naturally within the large enclosures. At the Toki Fureai Plaza, you can witness daily biological activities such as flight and foraging in a controlled yet naturalistic setting.
The facility operates throughout the year, allowing visitors to observe changes in the birds' behavior and the surrounding environment across different seasons. The opening hours are from 08:30 to 17:00. Please note that the facility is closed on Mondays from March to November, so it is highly recommended to check the schedule before your visit.

You can learn about the current state of rare bird protection by viewing documents at the museum or watching the birds through the observation corridor.
