Tokachi Farm is a crucial facility operated by the National Livestock Breeding Center, serving as a cornerstone for the development of Japan's livestock industry. The center focuses on the improvement and propagation of diverse livestock, including beef cattle, dairy cattle, heavy horses, and sheep, playing a vital role in supplying high-quality livestock and semen across the country. Additionally, the facility manages the production of livestock feed crops and the propagation of superior seeds. The site features an observation deck that offers a spectacular view of the grand natural landscape of the Tokachi Plain.
The mission of this facility is to contribute to the development of Japan's livestock industry and ensure a rich food supply through advanced livestock improvement. As a site for implementing new livestock technologies, it has long supported the foundation of Japanese livestock farming. Beyond being a mere production center, it continues to play a significant role in Japanese livestock through a combination of technical research and practical application.

One of the greatest attractions of Tokachi Farm is the breathtaking scenery enabled by its vast scale. The observation deck, in particular, provides a panoramic view of the expansive plains characteristic of the Tokachi region, offering visitors a profound sense of openness. As a site where the improvement of various livestock like beef/dairy cattle and horses takes place, it allows you to feel the cutting edge of Japanese livestock technology. The changing seasonal expressions of the Tokachi landscape are also a key reason to visit.
While certain areas of the Tokachi Farm grounds are open 24 hours, we highly recommend visiting during daylight hours to fully enjoy the scenery. On clear days, the vibrant greenery of the Tokachi Plain and the deep blue of the sky are particularly striking, making the view from the observation deck spectacular. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons; the lush green landscapes from spring to summer provide a sense of healing and tranquility to all who visit.

Rather than a recreational facility for tourists, this site is primarily a professional facility supporting Japan's livestock industry. The main way to enjoy the site is to refresh your senses by gazing at the vast natural beauty of Tokachi from the observation deck. Please note that access to areas where livestock breeding and improvement work is conducted is strictly prohibited; the primary enjoyment is observing the surrounding landscape.
The area surrounding Tokachi Farm is a representative agricultural and livestock region of Hokkaido. Near Otofuke Town and Obihiro City, there are many facilities where you can enjoy delicious local produce and dairy products, making it an excellent base for Tokachi sightseeing. We highly recommend renting a car to enjoy a scenic drive through the surrounding farm landscapes and agricultural fields.
