Tofuku-ji is the head temple of the Tofuku-ji school of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism, located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto. Special night-time illuminations are often held, allowing visitors to experience the illuminated maple trees and National Treasure buildings in a mystical, dreamlike atmosphere. Please note that night-time viewing often requires a complete reservation system in advance. While spring cherry blossoms also occur, the temple is most famous for its maple landscapes.
