Mt. Tenzan (Tenzan) is a mountain with an elevation of 1,046 meters, situated in the heart of Saga Prefecture. The area around the summit is designated as a prefectural natural park, and its greatest charm lies in the vast, flat grasslands that stretch approximately 4 kilometers from east to west. From these expansive meadows, visitors can enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view, which, on clear days, extends as far as Mount Unzen and the Chikugo Plain. While it offers a profound connection to nature, the mountain is also highly accessible, with routes that allow vehicles to reach near the summit, making it a popular and approachable spot for casual hiking and trekking.
The summit of Mt. Tenzan is home to several significant historical sites that evoke a sense of the past. Notably, it contains the grave of Aso Korenaga, a famous warrior from the Higo region who was active during the Nanboku-cho period. Additionally, a grand stone monument inscribed with "Reihou Tenzan" (Sacred Peak Tenzan) stands near the summit. This monument is of the same type as the "Chinkoku no Yama" bronze monument erected at the summit of Mt. Fuji by the calligrapher Nakabayashi Gotiku in 1900, and it is carefully preserved by Ogi City. Visiting the summit allows you to feel the serene and sacred atmosphere of this historical landscape.

The greatest appeal of Mt. Tenzan is the open, airy grassland at the summit and the breathtaking views it provides. From spring to autumn, the landscape is adorned with clusters of plants such as boxwood and azaleas, offering a rich palette of natural colors. Along the hiking routes, you can also witness the beautiful geological formations of the landscape. The summit area is an incredibly open space, making it the perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and refresh your spirit.
Mt. Tenzan reveals a different face depending on the season, offering unique charms throughout the year. From spring to summer, it is a beautiful time to stroll through the lush green meadows filled with blooming highland plants. Conversely, in winter, Mt. Tenzan is known as a spot where you can enjoy a serene snowy landscape. However, please note that temperatures at the summit can be extremely low, and snow may remain on the ground, so proper seasonal preparation is essential. The mountain also has a history of being used as a ski resort, highlighting its snowy side.
