Cape Tappi is located at the northernmost tip of the Tsugaru Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture. Surrounded by the Sea of Japan to the west, the Tsugaru Strait to the north, and Mutsu Bay to the east, it is famously known as the 'Cape of Wind' due to the constant, refreshing sea breezes. The white, cylindrical Tappi Misaki Lighthouse stands as a symbol of the region, offering a striking silhouette against the vast sky. The surrounding area is part of the Tsugaru National Park, providing a breathtaking natural landscape that blends seamlessly with the sea.
The area is rich in cultural heritage, marked by various monuments that tell the story of the region. You can find monuments dedicated to the famous writer Osamu Daza and the scholar Shoin Yoshida, as well as the 'Ryuken Bridge (Daza's Path)' featuring two dragons. Furthermore, the cape is deeply connected to Japanese music culture; there is a musical monument dedicated to the famous song 'Tsugaru Kaikyo Fuyugeshiki' (Winter Scenery of the Tsugaru Strait) by Sayuri Ishikawa. There are several must-see spots at Cape Tappi. First, the white Tappi Misaki Lighthouse offers a view where, on clear days, you can see the Matsumae Peninsula of Hokkaido and even Hakodate far across the Tsugaru Strait. Second, the unique 'Stairway National Highway' is a sight like no other. This road consists of 362 steps over a 70-meter elevation change and a total length of 388.2 meters. It was designed as a national highway that does not allow vehicle traffic, creating a rare and fascinating landscape. Lastly, don't miss the musical monument where you can press a button to hear the melodies of 'Tsugaru Kaikyo Fuyugeshiki' while enjoying the ocean breeze.
The best time to visit Cape Tappi is from May to August. During the summer months, the bright blue skies and vibrant ocean create a perfect backdrop for sightseeing. We recommend visiting during daylight hours on clear days to enjoy the most expansive views. The scenery around the lighthouse and the Stairway National Highway changes beautifully depending on the angle of the sunlight, offering different moods throughout the day.

Nearby areas like Lake Ajigasawa and the Oirase Mountain Stream also offer incredible driving routes, making it easy to plan a comprehensive journey through the natural beauty of Aomori.
As its name suggests, Cape Tappi is often hit by strong sea breezes. Regardless of the season, please bring a windbreaker or clothing that can protect you from the wind. Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended, especially for navigating the Stairway National Highway. Payments at nearby facilities generally accept cash or credit cards (Visa/MasterCard, etc.). While some English signage is available, please check local details in advance. No reservations are required for the viewing areas. Please be careful with hats or small items, as the strong wind can easily blow them away.
