The Shidarezakura of Tanokogō is a historic weeping cherry tree with over 100 years of history, located in the Tanokogō area of Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture. Standing alone on the mid-slope of a hill, its presence is commanding and striking, serving as a landmark that beautifully captures the changing seasons. Notably, it tends to bloom earlier than the common Somei Yoshino variety, making it a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike who wish to be among the first to welcome the arrival of spring.
This cherry tree is a precious natural heritage site, made available to the public through the generosity of a private owner. Having endured for over a century, it has been carefully preserved as an integral part of the local landscape. Because the site is opened to the public through the understanding and cooperation of the local community, visitors are kindly asked to show respect for both the natural environment and the local residents during their visit.
The greatest highlight is undoubtedly the sight of the weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom. Despite being a single tree, its branches spread wide and gracefully cascade downward, creating a unique and elegant atmosphere that differs from many other cherry blossom spots. Due to its location on the hillside, you can enjoy the view of the blossoms alongside the expansive, open scenery of the surrounding area. Many people visit during the peak blooming period to witness this breathtaking sight.
The best season to visit is from mid-March to April. Since this variety often blooms earlier than the standard Yoshino cherry, we recommend checking the annual blooming status before your trip. During the bright daylight hours, the elegant curves of the branches and the delicate colors of the flowers are most vivid, making it an ideal time for photography. Please note that the scenery changes constantly depending on the weather and seasonal conditions.
The primary experience here is the quiet, contemplative appreciation of nature. Around the open space on the hill, you can spend a relaxing time enjoying the natural scenery. It is a perfect place to forget the busyness of daily life and refresh your spirit while gazing at this limited-time seasonal landscape.
Hasami Town is also highly famous as a production center for ceramics (Hasami-yaki). After enjoying the cherry blossoms, we highly recommend exploring the local area to enjoy nearby cafes or local gourmet food. There are several popular coffee shops and restaurants scattered throughout the vicinity. Additionally, the area features local hot spring facilities (such as Hasami Onsen), making it an excellent way to conclude your sightseeing trip.

There are no English-speaking staff members on-site. Most signs and information are provided in Japanese.
No advance reservations are required. You are free to visit and view the blossoms at your convenience.
As the tree is located on a hillside, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Please also dress appropriately for the season and the natural outdoor environment.
Photography is permitted; however, please strictly observe the rules and do not step inside the protective fences. Please be considerate of other visitors while taking photos.
Due to the natural terrain, the area includes steps and slopes. Access for wheelchairs may be limited.
This cherry tree is on private property and is graciously opened to the public. It is strictly forbidden to enter the fenced areas. Please do not leave any trash behind and refrain from any actions that might harm the natural environment. We ask for your cooperation in being mindful of the local residents.
