The Takeo City Library & Historical Museum is a municipal complex located in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture, comprising a library, a historical museum, and several specialized facilities. Opened on October 1, 2000, the facility is currently managed by Culture Convenience Club (CCC), bringing a modern touch to traditional learning. The roots of this institution go back to the private Kishima Library, established in 1916. Over the decades, it evolved through various names, including the Takeo Town Library and Takeo City Library, serving as a cornerstone of local education and culture. A major renovation in 2013 transformed the facility into its current modern form, presenting a new way to experience a library in the digital age. The complex integrates the history of the region by utilizing spaces related to the former Rangakukan (Dutch Studies Institute) and hosting exhibitions that preserve the heritage of Takeo.
The facility is divided into several engaging sections: the main library, the children's library, and the historical museum. In the main building, you can explore approximately 250,000 books and magazines within a breathtaking, open two-story space. The adjacent 'Takeo City Children's Library' is designed specifically for younger visitors, featuring areas where children can relax without shoes to fully immerse themselves in stories. The historical museum offers a deep dive into local heritage through curated exhibits. To top off your visit, the on-site cafe provides the perfect setting to unwind with a drink and a good book.
The facility is open year-round from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Because it stays open late, we highly recommend visiting in the evening to enjoy a more tranquil and sophisticated atmosphere for reading. Various workshops and seasonal lectures are held throughout the year, ensuring that every visit offers a new experience. In the Children's Library, there are areas where shoes must be removed, so we recommend wearing shoes that are easy to slip on and off.
