Takata Matsubara Tsunami Reconstruction Memorial Park, located in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, is a national memorial facility established to pass down the memories of the Great East Japan Earthquake to future generations. On March 11, 2011, this region suffered devastating damage from a massive tsunami during the Great East Japan Earthquake. The Takata Matsubara pine grove, which once boasted approximately 70,000 pine trees, was almost entirely lost. The single tree that survived became known as the "Miracle Pine," serving as a powerful symbol of recovery. Through the collaboration of the national government, Iwate Prefecture, and Rikuzentakata City, this memorial park was developed to ensure that the memory of the disaster is never forgotten. The full facility was completed in 2021, functioning as a central hub for education and remembrance.
