The Takase River is a first-class river flowing through Omachi City and Azumino City in Nagano Prefecture. The name 'Takase' is said to be derived from the historical practice of naming rivers after the famous Takase River in Kyoto, which was developed during the mid-Heian period to mimic the streets of the ancient capital. The region represents a unique coexistence of water resource management through dam construction, natural landscape preservation, and a long-standing hot spring (onsen) culture.
