The museum's history dates back to 1949, when it was established as a local public museum within the scenic Ritsurin Garden, making it one of the earliest of its kind in Japan. In 1988, it moved to its current location in central Takamatsu. Following a large-scale renovation in 2016, the facility was reborn as a more modern and user-friendly space. The museum plays a crucial role in preserving regional culture and fostering creativity in the next generation through various educational programs.
