Tairyo Ichiba Nakaura is a vibrant seafood market and dining facility located in Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture. It serves as a hub for the rich marine products of the San'in region, specializing in delicacies such as the premium Matsuba crab, fresh seasonal fish, and 'ichiya-boshi' (sun-dried fish). The facility features the 'Kaisen Shokudo Nakaura' restaurant, where visitors can experience the authentic tastes of the region through expertly prepared seafood dishes.
The area around Sakaimino Port is renowned as one of the most important fishing ports in the San'in region. Tairyo Ichiba Nakaura was established to bring these abundant sea treasures directly to visitors. The facility is also deeply connected to local folklore and pop culture; it houses the massive 'Gaina Kitaro' statue and a life-sized statue of Nezumi Otoko, both of which are iconic elements related to the famous Japanese manga/anime 'GeGeGe no Kitaro'.
Visitors can explore various sections dedicated to seasonal San'in seafood. A standout attraction is the trademarked 'Kani Toro Don', a signature dish that offers a melt-in-the-mouth texture reminiscent of premium tuna belly (toro) but made with crab. Outside, the facility offers excellent photo opportunities with the 'Gaina Kitaro' statue and the life-sized Nezumi Otoko statue, which is designed so that visitors can even 'shake hands' with the character. Notably, the Kitaro statue is depicted holding a Matsuba crab in its left hand.
The market's operating hours are generally from 8:30 to 16:30, while the restaurant (Kaisen Shokudo Nakaura) operates from 11:00 to 16:00 (or 14:30 depending on the day). Please note that the availability of specific seafood, such as Matsuba crab, varies by season. The restaurant is closed every Thursday (unless it is a public holiday), so please check the schedule if you are visiting specifically for a meal. The facility is also closed during the New Year holidays (December 31st to January 4th).
At the market, you can purchase high-quality, locally sourced seafood and specialty items. The fresh fish section showcases the best of the San'in coast. At the dining area, you can indulge in the famous 'Kani Toro Don' and other seafood delicacies. For a fun interactive experience, head to the outdoor statue area to take photos with the characters or try 'shaking hands' with the life-sized Nezumi Otoko statue.
Tairyo Ichiba Nakaura is surrounded by several notable sightseeing spots. Yumiminato Park, Yumiminato Tower, and the Minato Onsen Honokami are all within a short walk (about 8 minutes). It is also easily accessible by car, located approximately 10 minutes from Sakaiminato Station and only 7 minutes from Yonago Kitaro Airport.
Credit cards are accepted for payments within the facility. There are no specific dress code requirements, but comfortable walking shoes are recommended if you plan to explore the outdoor statue area. While no advanced reservations are required for the restaurant, please observe general public etiquette and enjoy the facility responsibly. Photography is permitted throughout the site.
