Ogama Viewpoint is a scenic viewpoint located at an altitude of approximately 1,011m in Hakone Town, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its greatest feature is the luxurious panoramic view that allows visitors to enjoy the majestic presence of Mt. Fuji—the symbol of Japan—alongside the beautiful scenery of Lake Ashi stretching out below. The multi-layered landscape created by Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi, and the surrounding nature of Hakone provides a deeply moving experience. The site includes a parking lot and a Sky Lounge, making it an ideal place to rest and enjoy the view during a scenic drive.
This area has long been cherished as a place to enjoy the natural beauty of Hakone. The area around Ogama has historically served as an important observation point for gazing upon Mt. Fuji. Today, it is also recognized as part of the Hakone Geopark, loved by many tourists as a place to experience the stunning landscapes shaped by unique geological and natural environments.

The ultimate highlight is undoubtedly the view of Mt. Fuji. Because there are few large mountains in the direct line of sight, the mountain's massive form feels incredibly dynamic and imposing. The composition is further enhanced by the way Lake Ashi sits in the foreground, creating a sense of depth. Depending on the weather and time of day, the scenery changes constantly through different colors and light. The moments when the air is clear and the light hits the mountain perfectly are the best times for photography.
You can enjoy different expressions of the landscape depending on when you visit. Generally, the early morning air is very clear due to radiative cooling, making it the best time to encounter the most beautiful scenery. We recommend visiting between sunrise and the late morning. In the afternoon, cloud cover often increases, which can make the view hazy, so a morning visit is ideal. Since the clarity of the sky and the visibility of Mt. Fuji change with the seasons, returning at different times of the year is a great way to enjoy the area.

The act of simply gazing at the view is the ultimate experience here. At the Sky Lounge, you can relax with light snacks and drinks while taking in the scenery. The area is also a very popular driving destination, making the drive itself a part of the activity. Taking photos with the breathtaking backdrop of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi is a classic way for many tourists to create lasting memories.
Access to Ogama is typically via the Hakone Turnpike. The surrounding area features various facilities and scenic spots near the shores of Lake Ashi. Please choose your route based on your destination; for example, head toward the Lake Ashi area if you wish to enjoy the lakeside scenery, or explore nearby shrines for a more historical atmosphere. You can flexibly adjust your plans, such as visiting a cafe or taking a break indoors, depending on the weather.
Since the altitude is high, please be aware that the environment differs from the ground level. Regarding payments, please prepare both cash and credit cards for use at the parking lot or facilities. Because the wind can be strong depending on the weather and time of day, it is recommended to bring appropriate clothing. While some English signage may be available at facilities like the Sky Lounge, basic communication is often handled by the visitor. While the parking area is generally open for use, please allow plenty of time as it can become crowded during peak periods.
