Suzuka no Mori Garden is a specialized research nursery located in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of advanced 'shaping techniques' for weeping plum blossoms (shidare-ume). Operated by Akatsuka Botanical Garden Co., Ltd., the garden preserves traditional Japanese horticultural culture. The grounds feature approximately 200 legendary plum trees, meticulously maintained through expert skill, including the historic 'Kureha Shidare,' one of the oldest varieties in Japan. The landscape is characterized by a sea of pink blossoms set against the majestic backdrop of the Suzuka Mountains.
More than just a scenic garden, this facility serves as a research center to pass down high-level pruning and shaping techniques to future generations. The centerpiece of the garden is the collection of approximately 200 legendary weeping plum trees. During special event periods, night-time illuminations are held, allowing you to see the plum blossoms illuminated against the dark sky. Wheelchairs are available for loan, but quantities are limited. As the garden paths are made of gravel, please exercise caution when moving with a wheelchair. One multi-purpose (accessible) toilet is available on-site.
