The Suntory
Nagaokakyo City is renowned for its high-quality groundwater, a factor that led Suntory to select this location for its beer production. The emphasis on natural water quality is central to the brand's identity. Following the renewal of 'The Premium Malt's' in 2017, the facility was updated to its current name. It plays a vital role in supporting Japanese beer culture, serving as a key production site for bottled 'The Premium Malt's' in Western Japan.
The facility offers two primary programs. The first is the 'Guided Tour,' a 70-minute experience where you can learn about raw materials and the brewing process while tasting fresh beer. The second is the more in-depth 'The Premium Malt's Seminar.' This 90-minute program uses visual media and sensory experiences to convey the brewer's passion, accompanied by a beer tasting with recommended snacks. Additionally, the entrance hall features a large-scale 'The Premium Malt's' monument, perfect for photography.
The facility is generally open daily, except for New Year holidays and designated factory rest days. Summer (July and August) is an ideal time to visit, as the refreshing atmosphere of the facility makes enjoying high-quality beer even more delightful. Please note that the 'The Premium Malt's Seminar' has limited availability, so checking the official website in advance is highly recommended.
At the end of your tour, you can enjoy beer sent directly from the brewery. The onsite shop also sells exclusive items and specialized glassware found nowhere else. The 'Factory Direct Beer' is particularly popular among visitors. For non-drinkers or families, soft drinks are also available, ensuring everyone can enjoy the atmosphere together.
The brewery is situated in an area rich in Kyoto's historical atmosphere. Nearby, you can visit the Suntory Yamazaki Distillery to explore whisky culture. The Nagaokakyo area, with its beautiful landscapes and abundant water resources, makes for a perfect addition to any Kyoto itinerary.
While the facility is modern and clean, the tour may involve some walking and steps. Visitors are asked to cooperate with temperature checks and hand sanitization upon arrival. If you have a fever or cough, please refrain from visiting. Payments at the shop can be made via cash or credit card.
