Sumpu Castle Park, located in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a comprehensive park developed on the former site of Sumpu Castle. It was officially renamed to its current name in 2012. The park covers the area of the former Honmaru (inner sanctum) and Ninomaru (second enclosure) of Sumpu Castle, creating a unique space where historical remains and modern relaxation coexist. It has been selected as one of the '100 Best Historical Parks in Japan,' demonstrating its high level of both historical value and functionality as a modern urban park.
This site is the location of the former Sumpu Castle, built by Tokugawa Ieyasu during the early Edo period. A statue of Tokugawa Ieyasu stands within the park, highlighting his profound connection to this land. While the castle once served as a powerful fortification, visitors can now learn about its original structure and history through the meticulously reconstructed buildings.
