Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort is a premier mountain resort located in the Kiyosato Highlands of Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The ski slopes range from an altitude of approximately 1,600 to 1,900 meters, providing a refreshing and high-altitude environment. One of its most significant features is the exceptionally high rate of sunny days. Hokuto City boasts some of the longest sunshine hours in Japan, and this facility records a sunny day rate of approximately 80%. In winter, visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding under the vibrant, clear blue skies known as 'Yatsugatale Blue.' In summer, the resort transforms, offering incredible outdoor experiences centered around the 'Kiyosato Terrace.'
The facility has a long history as a prominent ski destination in Yamanashi. While it has long been a staple for winter sports, it underwent significant development in the 1980s. In 1990, it opened as 'Kitz Meadows Oizumi-Kiyosato Ski Resort,' and in 2002, it adopted its current name, 'Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort.' Today, it has evolved into a year-round highland resort that attracts many visitors, not only for winter sports but also for its vibrant 'Green Season' activities from spring through autumn.
The greatest draw of this resort is the panoramic view from the 1,900-meter summit. The landscape features Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, and the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park in the front, with the Yatsugatake Mountains rising majestically behind. This allows visitors to enjoy ever-changing seasonal scenery. The ski and snowboard courses are designed to accommodate everyone from beginners to advanced riders. Additionally, the 'Snow Land' features a 100-meter dedicated sledding area, ensuring that families and children can enjoy the snow regardless of skill level.
In winter, the focus is on high-quality skiing and snowboarding. Thanks to the high sunny day rate, you can expect clear visibility and excellent riding conditions. During the summer (open from April 29 to November 3), the charm of the Kiyosato Terrace becomes the highlight. It is a perfect place to enjoy the cool highland breeze and relax in nature. Furthermore, the facility features high-quality restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy gourmet food and coffee during your breaks from the slopes.
Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers 'Skids Camp,' one of Japan's largest specialized schools for toddlers and elementary school students, providing excellent support for families. In the summer, you can take the lift to the summit to enjoy the breathtaking views. The on-site dining, including cafes serving authentic Italian cuisine and freshly baked bread, adds a delicious dimension to your visit.
Located in the scenic Kiyosato Highlands, the area is rich with various sightseeing spots. The resort is easily accessible from the Tokyo metropolitan area via the Chuo Expressway and the Chubu-Odan Expressway, making it a perfect destination for a day trip or a weekend getaway.
When skiing or snowboarding, appropriate heavy winter clothing and gear are essential. If you are traveling with pets, they must be in a cage or a bag that covers the head to move through the center house or ride the lifts; however, please note that pets are not permitted inside the restaurants. For safety reasons, the use of drones is strictly prohibited near the lift facilities and surrounding areas. When navigating to the resort via car GPS, it is recommended to search by the facility's name or phone number rather than the address for better accuracy.
