Suiha Kogen is a beautiful highland area located in Konasa-cho, Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture. Surrounded by a continuous mountain range, it is renowned as a scenic spot where visitors can observe the dramatic shifts in local flora throughout the year. In the spring, the landscape is adorned with cherry blossoms, while the autumn brings a vibrant display of cosmos and other wildflowers, making it an ideal sanctuary for those seeking a peaceful connection with nature.
The area holds significant cultural value due to its proximity to Sanjus-ji, one of the famous 88 Temples of the Shikoku Pilgrimage. This connection links the natural environment with long-standing spiritual traditions. Furthermore, the plateau is situated within the vicinity of the Kinsha Lake Prefectural Natural Park, an area dedicated to the preservation of natural landscapes and environmental conservation, ensuring that the scenic beauty remains untouched.
The primary draw of Suiha Kogen is the ever-changing botanical scenery. Visitors can witness the delicate beauty of cherry blossoms in the spring and the sweeping fields of cosmos in the autumn. The wide-open vistas that allow for unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains are a defining structural feature of this plateau. The most striking changes occur during spring (around March and April) and autumn (around October). These are considered the best seasons to visit to see the cherry blossoms and cosmos flowers in full bloom. Since the area is accessible 24 hours a day, visitors can enjoy the scenery during bright daylight hours to fully appreciate the clarity of the mountain views and the vibrant colors of the seasonal plants.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the highland's natural environment, taking in the expansive views of the surrounding mountains. The area features well-maintained paths that allow for easy movement while observing seasonal wildflowers. It also serves as an excellent location for light hiking and outdoor activities, thanks to its gentle and accessible terrain.
Near Suiha Kogen lies Sanjus-ji, a significant site of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. The area is also close to several natural landmarks, including the Kinsha Lake natural park area. Access to the plateau is convenient via major transport infrastructure, including the Matsuyama Expressway and the Mishima-Kinoe Interchange.
