Shuri Castle Park will host the 'New Year's Banquet' (Shinshun no Utage) for three special days from Thursday, January 1st, to Saturday, January 3rd, 2026. This event is a magnificent way to experience the historical rituals and living culture of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Visitors can witness the grand appearance of the King and Queen, the performance of the traditional court music known as 'Uzaraku,' and various traditional Ryukyuan performing arts, showcasing the vibrant and colorful history of the kingdom.
New Year celebrations in the Ryukyu Kingdom were traditionally marked by ceremonial movements of the King and Queen, accompanied by essential elements of traditional music and dance. The 'New Year's Banquet' follows historical protocols, including parts of the 'Chohai Gikishiki' (ceremonial rites). The traditional arts, such as Uzaraku, are precious cultural heritages that have been performed in the royal courts throughout the history of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
