Shukugawa Park (officially known as Shukugawa Riverside Green Space) is a vast, beautiful park stretching approximately 3.2 km along the Shukugawa River in Nishomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Spanning about 20.8 hectares from Kaerienhama in the south to Ginzuibashi in the north, it offers a rich natural landscape. The park is most famous during the spring, when roughly 1,160 Yoshino cherry trees reach full bloom, painting both sides of the waterway in vibrant shades of pink. This breathtaking view has earned it a place on the '100 Famous Cherry Blossom Spots' and '100 Historic Parks of Japan' lists, making it a representative scenic spot of Nishomiya.
The park is a well-maintained green space along the banks of the Shukugawa River. It has established a prestigious status as a premier cherry blossom destination while maintaining the local natural ecosystem. The greatest attraction is the cherry blossom path that lines the waterway in spring. The combination of stone embankments, clear water, and the soft petals of the cherry blossoms creates a deeply poetic and emotional atmosphere. Beyond the spring season, the park features about 1,520 pine trees, ensuring a lush green landscape throughout much of the year. There are also stairs leading down to the water's edge, allowing visitors to experience the riverside scenery up close. Additionally, the park features beautifully maintained flower beds that showcase various seasonal blooms.
The most iconic time to visit is from March to April during the cherry blossom season. At full bloom, the sight of petals floating on the water's surface is unforgettable. In summer, the greenery becomes deep and lush, providing a refreshing atmosphere near the water. For the best experience, visit during the bright daylight hours to see the colors of the blossoms and greenery in full splendor, or during the calm afternoon hours to enjoy a relaxing stroll alongside the gentle flow of the river. The park is also popular for morning and evening jogging and walking.
The park is an ideal course for walking and jogging, with many flat sections along the 3.2km path that make it easy to stroll while enjoying the view. For families, there is a playground area equipped with slides, swings, and climbing frames. Some spots even feature stones that allow children to cross toward the water, offering a fun way to interact with nature. Please note that activities such as using open flames, barbecues, selling goods, or reserving spots for commercial use are strictly prohibited to maintain the park's natural integrity.
The park is highly accessible via nearby stations on the Hankyu and Hanshin railway lines. It is located immediately adjacent to Koshien Station on the Hanshin Electric Railway and is within walking distance of Sakura Shukugawa Station on the JR line. The surrounding area is a pleasant mix of residential and commercial zones, with many cafes and restaurants nearby where you can relax after your walk.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes for your stroll. While there are benches available for resting, please bring your own drinks or light snacks. Note that barbecues and any use of fire are strictly prohibited. Additionally, because river levels can rise rapidly during heavy rain, please avoid entering the river area during or immediately after rainfall. As a public space, we ask all visitors to take their trash home and respect the local environment.
