Seitengu is a magnificent Taoist temple located in Sakado City, Saitama Prefecture. The complex spans approximately 7,000 tsubo (approx. 23,000 m²), and its sheer scale and opulence stand out among other Taoist facilities in Japan. To ensure absolute authenticity, many building materials were shipped directly from Taiwan, and the design was overseen by experts from Taiwan, ensuring every detail reflects the true essence of Taiwanese culture.
History & Cultural Background
The temple was founded by Mr. Kounokuten. After surviving a critical illness through a connection with the deity 'Sanqing Daozu,' Mr. Koun was inspired to build a palace to honor the divine grace he received. To achieve this, master craftsmen and builders were brought from Taiwan. The construction process took 15 years, with work beginning in 1981 and the temple officially opening in 1995. Beyond being a religious site, Seitengu serves as a vital bridge for preserving and sharing traditional Taiwanese culture within Japan.
