Shirakaba Highland Royal Hill Ski Resort is a nature-rich ski resort located on the south side of Lake Shirakaba in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture. Situated at the northern foot of Mount Yatsugamine, its greatest charm lies in the high number of sunny days and the breathtaking views of Lake Shirakaba while you glide down the slopes. The environment is exceptionally welcoming to families and beginners. Furthermore, the presence of the 'Shirakaba Royal Hotel' directly connected to the slopes allows guests to enjoy a seamless transition between accommodation and skiing without any stress.
The resort opened in December 1961 and has long been a beloved winter destination in the region. In 2007, management was transferred from the Alpico Group to Suzuki Shokai. Over the decades, it has fostered a culture of enjoying the snowy mountains across generations within the beautiful natural environment of Lake Shirakaba. Today, it serves not just as a ski area, but as a comprehensive leisure facility for the whole family.
The standout feature of Shirakaba Highland Royal Hill Ski Resort is its exceptional facilities and convenience. Notably, it features a rare 'snow escalator,' which significantly reduces the physical burden of moving across the snow. Because the accommodation is located right next to the slopes, you can dive into the snowy world immediately upon arrival. The resort offers various courses ranging from gentle slopes for beginners and families to more technical courses for intermediate and advanced skiers, ensuring everyone can enjoy the mountain at their own level.
The best season to visit is from December to March. January and February are particularly recommended as the snow quality is stable, offering the true essence of winter. The resort also offers night skiing, allowing you to experience the magical atmosphere of the slopes under the night sky. Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers high-quality rental sets so you can enjoy the snow even without your own gear. Full sets including wear, helmets, and boots are available, making it perfect for beginners. You can also experience new ways of playing in the snow with items like snow drives. Additionally, the hotel features a kids' room and a free lounge, ensuring a comfortable environment for families traveling with young children.
After skiing, we recommend relaxing at a nearby cafe or restaurant while enjoying the view of Lake Shirakaba. Within the resort area, you can enjoy lunch or breaks at 'Restaurant Shirakaba' or 'Cafe Royalhill.' The hotel on the first floor also provides changing rooms and lockers, making the facilities highly convenient even for those not staying overnight.
Please dress warmly with plenty of layers to protect against the cold. While high-quality rentals are available, we suggest bringing your own gloves and goggles for maximum comfort. Payments can be made via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, etc.). When using the snow escalator, children in 3rd grade or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Please observe all safety rules and etiquette to ensure a safe and enjoyable time in the mountains.
