Opened on November 1, 1961, the Shimoda Ropeway has a long history of being beloved by travelers visiting the Izu Peninsula. Between 2018 and 2019, the facility underwent significant renovations to create a more sophisticated atmosphere. Notably, the design of the gondola cars incorporates the aesthetic philosophy of 'THE ROYAL EXPRESS,' a luxury train on the Izukyu Line, providing a sense of elegance and high-end comfort during your transit. The greatest draw is the overwhelming view from the summit of Mt. Nesugata. Since the summit is at a higher elevation, it can feel windier than the ground level. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for movement. If you are using the dog run, please note that it is primarily for small dogs and you must follow the posted rules regarding leashes. While free parking is available for ropeway users, please note that the parking lot closes after operating hours, so please plan your time accordingly.
