Shifuku-ji is a historic Buddhist temple located in the Aoba Ward of Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. It is renowned as the 3rd station of the Sendai 33 Kannon pilgrimage and holds a profound historical connection to the famous daimyo, Date Masamune. The history of Shifuku-ji is deep, with roots stretching back to the Tensho era. In 1585 (Tensho 13), a letter was sent from Date Masamune to the monk Kousai of Shifuku-ji, illustrating the close relationship between the lord and the temple. Originally located in Yachigoji, the temple was later moved to its current location in Kitayama. The temple also played a significant role as the mausoleum for Yoshihiro, the third generation of the Date clan. Although some structures were lost during the Meiji Restoration, the temple remains a vital cultural heritage site preserved to this day.

Additionally, the grounds are home to beautiful flora, such as the 'Koyozan' and 'Shichika Mokuren' (Magnolia), which are designated as Sendai City's preservation trees.
