Senko-ji is a historic temple located in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is affectionately known as the "Hydrangea Temple" due to the approximately 7,000 hydrangea plants that decorate its grounds. The history of Senko-ji dates back to 1192 (the third year of the Kenkyu era). It is said to have been founded by the monk Eisai, making it one of the oldest Zen temples in Japan. The temple grounds contain significant historical sites, including the tomb of the historical figure Kera no Shinnō and the prefectural-designated temple bell, making it an important site for understanding the regional history.
