Senjojiki is a scenic plateau and grassland located in Hiokinaka, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, at an altitude of 333 meters. Spanning approximately 26,400 square meters, this vast greenery offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Sea of Japan to the north. From this vantage point, you can see the various islands scattered across the sea under a vast sky. The landscape is also characterized by the presence of several wind turbines, adding a modern touch to the natural scenery.
The sheer scale and beauty of this landscape have made it a notable location in the past; it was even used as a filming location for Ford automobile commercials and poster photography. Today, it serves as both a popular scenic spot for travelers and a functional campsite. Additionally, the area is known for hosting the annual "Kankan Festa in Senjojiki," a mountain bike endurance race held during the summer months.

The primary attraction of Senjojiki is the magnificent view of the Sea of Japan from the high ground. Visitors can enjoy looking out over islands such as Hagi Rokushima Village and Mishima, which present different expressions depending on the season and time of day. A particularly unique feature is the observation of fishing lights (Isaribi) floating on the sea during summer nights. For a relaxing break, there is a cafe called "Country Kitchen" located on the plateau, where you can enjoy a beverage while soaking in the view.
The most pleasant time to visit is between May and September. During summer nights, you can witness the enchanting sight of fishing lights on the water, and at dawn, the sun rising over the horizon is a spectacular sight. If you plan to use the campsite, please note that stays after 18:00 are treated as overnight stays; if you are planning a day camp (day-use only), please confirm the specific time requirements.
Senjojiki offers a wonderful opportunity for camping amidst nature. The campsite features numerous free sites and is well-equipped for BBQ (barbecue) activities. While the area hosts mountain bike events, please be aware that mountain biking is strictly prohibited on the walking paths; these paths are designated as pedestrian-only zones to ensure safety.
Nearby attractions include the famous Motonosumi Shrine. On the plateau itself, you can find the "Country Kitchen" cafe for a rest. It is highly recommended to check information regarding nearby facilities and services before your visit to ensure a smooth trip.
Since Senjojiki is located at an altitude of 333m, it can become quite windy. Please bring clothing that can protect you from the wind. The campsite operates on a self-service system: you must fill out the application form, place the form and your cash into a transparent bag, and then deposit it into the designated fee box. Payment for the campsite must be made in cash. If you are bringing pets, they must be kept on a leash at all times. Finally, please respect the rules: mountain bikes are not allowed on the walking paths.
