Senagajima is a highly accessible island located right next to Naha Airport on Okinawa Island, just a 15-minute drive away. The island features a sophisticated resort development, most notably the 'Senagajima Umikaji Terrace,' where modern shops and cafes are clustered together. While the area around Senagajima has a rich historical background, it has recently undergone significant development as a premier tourism hub. Based on tourism development plans initiated around 2012, the area saw the installation of observation decks, the undergrounding of utility lines, and the renovation of perimeter roads to create the current resort atmosphere. In August 2015, the opening of the Umikaji Terrace commercial facility established the area as a unique destination where Okinawa's natural beauty seamlessly blends with modern commercial elegance.
The greatest draw is the spectacular harmony of the 'Sea, Sky, and Planes.' From the terrace seats of the various shops at Umikaji Terrace, you can observe the beautiful Okinawan ocean and planes crossing the sky at close range. You can also spot tropical flora, such as Shell Ginger (Getto) flowers, which add to the tropical atmosphere. Beyond just shopping and dining, it is a precious location for aviation enthusiasts to experience the intensity of aircraft movements.
Senagajima can be enjoyed year-round, but the scenery changes with the seasons. For example, in early summer, the blooming of Shell Ginger flowers provides a refreshing tropical scent. Regarding the time of day, the bright daylight hours offer a sharp contrast between the blue sea and the planes, while the sunset period allows you to watch aircraft illuminated against a beautiful twilight sky. At night, the illuminated shops and lights create a sophisticated, romantic resort ambiance.

Since the facilities are built on sloping terrain, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Regarding payment, most shops accept credit cards and transportation IC cards, but some smaller shops or stall-style vendors may require cash, so it is safer to carry some Japanese Yen. While English signage and menus are available, we recommend checking or booking in advance for specific services like spas.
